Candle Care 101: The First Burn
A great candle can be ruined by a rushed first burn. The good news is that getting it right takes nothing but a little patience. Here is the whole secret.
1. Let the first burn go long. The very first time you light a candle, let it burn until the entire top layer of wax has melted into a full pool, edge to edge. For most jars that is two to three hours. Wax has a memory, and that first full melt pool teaches it to burn evenly every time after.
2. Trim the wick before every burn. Keep the wick trimmed to about a quarter inch. A long wick makes a big flame, soot, and an uneven burn. A quick trim before each light keeps the flame steady and the glass clean.
3. Do not burn it to the very bottom. Stop when about a half inch of wax is left. It protects your surface and gets you ready for the next one.
Treat the first burn right and your candle will reward you, no tunneling, no waste, just an even glow all the way down. Our hand-poured candles are coming soon, and this is exactly how we will tell you to love them.
